COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Two of Ohio’s U.S. Senate candidates running for the Republican nomination received a plethora of endorsements last week as the primary draws closer.

Incumbent Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown will face one of three opponents in a general election: state Sen. Matt Dolan, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, or businessman Bernie Moreno. The nominee will be decided in a primary election on March 19.

Here are developments from the past week.

Pro-life group endorses two candidates

Ohio Right to Life endorsed LaRose and Moreno. While this was a dual endorsement, one of the candidates used it as an opportunity to cast himself as the only pro-life candidate in the race.

“Unlike both of my opponents, standing up for the rights of the unborn is not a newfound interest for me – it’s part of who I am,” LaRose said.

Moreno’s statement avoided casting doubt on his opponents’ pro-life stances, instead going after Democrats for their pro-choice views.

“I am proudly pro-life and am incredibly grateful for the endorsement of Ohio Right to Life,” Moreno said. “It is critical that Republicans fight against Democrats’ extremism on this issue.”

Brown’s campaign staff signs labor agreement

Friends of Sherrod Brown and IBEW Local 1466 signed a collective bargaining agreement recognizing nonmanagement campaign staff.

“Campaigns are often demanding and rigorous environments and it is crucial staff have a seat at the table to bargain for fair representation and good conditions,” said Jason Wright, IBEW Local 1466 president and business manager. “We appreciate Sherrod’s willingness to recognize his staff and look forward to representing them throughout the campaign.”

LaRose endorsed by trade association

The National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors PAC — one of the nation’s largest trade associations — endorsed LaRose.

“Secretary of State Frank LaRose has a deep understanding and appreciation of the policies impacting the American economy and our nation’s vital supply chain industry,” NAW-PAC Treasurer and NAW CEO Eric Hoplin said.

Two senators endorse Moreno

Ted Cruz (R-Texas) endorsed Moreno, marking his 10th stamp of approval from a senator.

“Bernie Moreno has what it takes to win his race and join the fight against Joe Biden and his radical agenda,” Cruz said.

On Friday, Moreno received his 11th when Eric Schmitt (R-Missouri) endorsed him.

LaRose receives county GOP endorsement

The Scioto County Republican Party endorsed LaRose. This marked LaRose’s first endorsement from a county Republican Party.

“Scioto County represents the values and grit of our state, and I’m honored to earn their overwhelming endorsement,” LaRose said.

Moreno touted an endorsement from the “Scioto County Republican Club” on X, but LaRose received the county party’s official endorsement.

Moreno endorsed in Cuyahoga County

Moreno received his 11th county party endorsement, coming from the Cuyahoga County Republican Party.

“With less than 5 weeks to go and early voting about to begin, Republicans across Ohio know that I am the candidate who can unite the party and defeat Sherrod Brown,” Moreno said.

Dolan comments on Russia and Vladimir Putin

On Friday, Dolan released a statement after the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

“Navalny’s death is a reminder that Putin’s cruelty and efforts to stifle freedom and dissent know no bounds,” Dolan said. “America, along with our allies, must remain clear-eyed about Putin’s ambitions in Ukraine and beyond.”
