U.S. and Turkish bases attacked in Iraq

Two separate attacks have hit American and Turkish forces in northern Iraq.

In one, a Turkish soldier was killed and a child wounded in Bashiqa during a rocket attack on a military base.

The Turkish Defence Ministry said that one rocket hit the base, but two fell onto a nearby village, wounding 12-year-old Faiza Mahmood.

Her father says she was inside their house when the rocket hit.

Meanwhile, Kurdish officials say a drone dropped explosives near U.S. forces stationed at Erbil airport, in another attack late on Wednesday (April 14 ).

There were no reports of injuries and no immediate claim of responsibility, but it follows a steady stream of rocket attacks the U.S. blames on Iran-backed militias.

The incidents coincided with a car bombing at a Baghdad market on Thursday that killed four people, according to local authorities.

Again, there was no immediate claim of responsibility.
