UA Reports Significant Drop In New COVID-19 Cases Among Students

TUSCALOOSA, AL. — The University of Alabama System reported a significant overall decrease in new COVID-19 cases among students, with 294 new positives identified on the University of Alabama's Tuscaloosa campus from Sept. 4-10.

The latest numbers reflected on the UA System's COVID-19 Dashboard, which was updated on Friday, are compared to 846 new cases among students for the prior week, marking a substantial drop-off likely due to enhanced public health measures both on campus and in the surrounding community.

In terms of faculty and staff impacted, the latest update reported 13 new cases over the last week, compared to 12 new cases over the last testing period beginning on Aug. 28 and running through Sept. 3.

At UAB and UAH, the system reported that numbers remain in low double-digits, with 27 UAB students testing positive and 11 at UAH over the last week.

The UA System dashboard also reported that only 15% of isolation beds on the UA campus are currently in use, compared to about 40% last week.
