UAE Launches Arab World's First Mission to Mars

The first Arab space mission in history was launched from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Centre on July 19, as the United Arab Emirates joined the race of unmanned voyages to Mars.

Known as the Hope Mars Mission, the rocket carried the space probe Al-Amal which was due to study the Martian atmosphere and its layers when it reaches the orbit of the red planet in 2021.

The Emirate space mission is going to Mars at around the same time as Tianwen-1 from China and Mars 2020 from the United States during a period where Mars is relatively closer to the Earth, according to reports. Credit: Hope Mars Mission via Storyful
