- The UC Davis women's basketball team is headed to the big dance.

- Pretty exciting. Marshall Harris is live in Davis Forest, where the team is getting ready for the NCAA tournament. Hey Marshall.

MARSHALL HARRIS: Hey, Curtis, Adrienne. A different situation than what we normally see as this team right now is watching the NCAA tournament selection show to find out what seed they will be and who they will play in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

And here's the thing. It's not like most years where they're also going to be wondering where they're going to be playing. No, this year they know everyone. All 64 teams are headed to San Antonio to play in the 2021 edition of this tournament.

Remember, last year there was no tournament. This year because of Yolo County health regulations they could not play a game for 59 straight days, the Aggies. In fact, there was a point in which they considered not continuing their season at all.

JENNIFER GROSS: Our team got together, had a talk, and said-- came back to us, you know, within a half an hour and said we're in. We want to keep playing. We want to be ready for when we do get the opportunity to play, and we want to just keep improving. Basketball is an outlet for us. This is an opportunity for us to be together and to be here in Davis. And they stayed the course and stayed so incredibly disciplined, and I couldn't be more proud of them.

MARSHALL HARRIS: The reason she's proud is because her team is now just a few minutes away from finding out who they will face in the tournament. They won the Big West tournament by knocking off UC Irvine in the conference championship game Saturday night.

Now the rest is wait and see, as they say. They will leave tomorrow morning for San Antonio. And as soon as they announce it, you're going to see jubilation in here. Again, the family, friends, they can't be here to celebrate with them, but we're going to try to tell that story as soon as that decision is made, guys.

- [SIGH]

- All right. Looking forward to it. Thanks, Marshall.
