UCF defensive backs Richie Grant and Aaron Robinson were among the 49 college players cited on the Jim Thorpe Award watch list Monday. The award is presented to the top defensive back in the nation.
It’s Grant’s third appearance on a preseason watch, with the defensive back previously named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy and Bednarick Award lists.
Grant, a redshirt senior, started 25 of the past 26 games for the Knights. He totaled 187 tackles, seven interceptions and 11 pass breakups during the past two seasons. Robinson had 54 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss with three interceptions in 2019.
Three finalists are invited to attend ESPN’s The Home Depot College Football Awards Show, where the winner is announced. The official presentation takes place in Oklahoma City following the ESPN show.
Other Knights named to preseason watch lists include quarterback Dillon Gabriel (Davey O’Brien Award) and receiver Tre Nixon (Biletnikoff Award).
