UCF linebacker Terrence Lewis will enter transfer portal

UCF linebacker Terrence Lewis plans on entering the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on social media Tuesday night.

“Any school wanna contact me can,” Lewis wrote in a tweet. “I’ll be in the portal soon. Thank you.”

Lewis transferred to UCF from Maryland in January and was limited in the spring because of a pre-existing knee injury.

During training camp in August, Lewis was able to fully practice with the team.

Although Lewis says he’ll be in the portal “soon,” it’s more likely he won’t be in until at least December.

That’s because the NCAA recently implemented transfer portal windows for when athletes can leave a school.

The first window opens the day after championship selections are made, which is in early December and lasts 45 days.

Lewis was arrested in Miami-Dade County the night of May 8 but the domestic battery charge against him was dropped on June 9, according to public records.

Vitals: 6-foot-3, 190 pounds

Resume: Lewis, an Opa-Locka native who attended Miami Central, was a 5-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle, according to 247Sports. After not playing last season at Maryland as a freshman, Lewis transferred to UCF ahead of the spring semester.

Role: Lewis was in the mix at linebacker but ultimately did not land on UCF’s two-deep depth chart, sitting behind starters Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste and Eastern Illinois transfer Jason Johnson as well as backups Branden Jennings (Kansas State transfer) and Walter Yates (Savannah State).

Fit: Because Lewis is a native of South Florida, perhaps FAU or FIU would be interested. FCS programs like FAMU and Bethune-Cookman could be options, too. Based on his initial decision to return to Florida after beginning at Maryland, there’s a chance he’ll want to remain in the Sunshine State.
