UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel says he will transfer to OU football, reunite with Jeff Lebby

NORMAN — Just hours after OU quarterback Caleb Williams announced he was entering the transfer portal, the Sooners have bolstered their quarterback room.

UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who was expected to begin classes at UCLA on Monday, instead announced Monday night that he was transferring to OU.

Gabriel has a relationship with new Sooners offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, who was UCF’s quarterback coach and offensive coordinator in 2019 when Gabriel was a freshman.

Gabriel threw for 8,037 yards and 70 touchdowns with 14 interceptions in three seasons for the Knights. He also rushed for eight touchdowns.

Gabriel threw for 814 yards and nine touchdowns with three interceptions this season before fracturing his left clavicle Sept. 17 against Louisville.

Gabriel threw for more than 3,500 yards in each of his two full seasons as UCF’s starter.

The Mililani, Hawaii, native announced his decision to transfer in mid-November before announcing his decision to head to UCLA in mid-December.

Williams announced his decision to enter the transfer portal Monday, though said he was still considering remaining with the Sooners.
