UCO will remain host for Oklahoma high school football 11-man state title games

Fairview celebrates after the Class A state championship football game between the Fairview Yellowjackets and the Gore Pirates Chad Richison Stadium in Edmond Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022. Fairview won 32-28.

State title games are staying at Chad Richison Stadium.

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association Board of Directors voted during Wednesday’s meeting to enter a five-year agreement with the University of Central Oklahoma to continue 11-man high school football championships in Edmond. All 12 present voting members approved the recommendation.

The University of Tulsa, East Central University and UCO all submitted proposals to host the championship games. OSSAA associate director Mike Whaley listed a number of factors considered, including parking, cost, stadium size and location.

The Oklahoma Football Coaches Assocation had endorsed UCO’s proposal, and executive director David Jackson added another reason to choose Chad Richison Stadium.

“One of the things that you can’t list in those lists of factors is the experience that they have provided in the three years that we’ve been there,” Jackson said.

“We believe with feedback that we’ve gotten from the schools that have participated there, that they’ve all been treated above and beyond what they expected out there, and that’s what we want, to be able to provide that experience.”
