UConn’s Caroline Ducharme named to Cheryl Miller Award watch list

UConn guard Caroline Ducharme has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2023 Cheryl Miller award.

The award, which is named after three-time Naismith Player of the Year and Basketball Hall of Famer Cheryl Miller, recognizes the top small forward in women’s Division I NCAA basketball.

Ducharme is one of 20 players on the preseason watch list. Others on the list include Aijha Blackwell of Baylor, Elizabeth Balogun of Duke, Morgan Jones of Louisville, South Carolina’s Brea Beal, and Haley Jones of Stanford.

Ducharme, a sophomore from Milton, Mass., averaged 9.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game last season for the Huskies. She was one of three UConn players selected preseason first-team All-Big East.

UConn is hoping Ducharme can take another leap forward this season to help the Huskies fill in some of the production that will be lost with star Paige Bueckers out for the season with a torn ACL.

The Huskies begin their season with an exhibition game against Kutztown on Nov. 6.
