UConn football adds eight transfers

Jan. 27—As he enters his second season as the offensive coordinator for the UConn football team, Nick Charlton will have a newly acquired weapon at his disposal.

And it's a weapon he's very familiar with.

Joseph Fagnano, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound quarterback that played three seasons under Charlton at the University of Maine, was one of eight transfers added to the program, head coach Jim Mora announced Thursday.

All eight players will join the Huskies for the spring semester.

Fagnano has two years of eligibility remaining.

The Williamsport, Pennsylvania native had a career year in 2022, completing 208 passes for 2,231 yards and 15 touchdowns. He averaged 202.8 yards per game and threw only six interceptions in 11 games.

On the ground, he had 93 carries for 296 yards and three touchdowns.

In the fall of 2021, Fagnano finished with 794 passing yards and six touchdowns in four games

He was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team in the spring COVID-19 season in 2021 and was the team's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 after finishing with 1,835 passing yards and 17 touchdowns in eight games.

The Huskies also announced the addition of Jalen Mitchell, a 5-foot-10, 221-pound running back transferring from Louisville.

Mitchell, a native of Rockledge, Florida, redshirted his freshman year before playing 26 games over the last three seasons with the Cardinals. He comes to the Huskies with two years of eligibility remaining.

Mitchell ran for 347 yards in five games in 2020, his first season with the Cardinals, third-most on the team

As a junior in 2021, Mitchell was second on the team and 12th in the ACC with 722 yards and added five touchdowns in 12 games. He also caught 12 passes for 121 yards.

Mitchell had 10 carries for 48 yards and didn't score last season.
