UConn football announces home-and-home series with Old Dominion, James Madison

UConn football continues to fill out its future schedule, as the program announced home-and-home series with James Madison and Old Dominion, both from the Sun Belt Conference.

UConn will visit James Madison in Harrisburg, Va., on Nov. 11, 2023. The Dukes will return the game and play the Huskies at Rentschler Field on Nov. 14, 2026.

James Madison is a longtime Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) power, having won two national championships and making two more title game appearances since 2004. The program will make its debut at the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level this season.

UConn has played James Madison five times in its history, all coming when both were members of the FCS, then known as Division I-AA. The Huskies are 1-4 all-time against the Dukes, last defeating them in 1993 before losing four straight, in 1994, ‘95, ‘96 and ‘99.

Old Dominion made the move to the FBS in 2012, and is now a conference rival of James Madison. UConn will face the Monarchs for the first time when the two schools meet in Norfolk, Va., on Oct. 31, 2026. ODU will play at UConn the following season, on Sept. 25, 2027. The Monarchs finished 6-7 last season, losing to Tulsa in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.

In other scheduling news, Liberty University’s decision to join Conference USA beginning next season means UConn and Liberty had to revise their football series from three games to a straight home-and-home series.

Liberty will play at Rentschler Field this season (Nov. 12). The game scheduled for the 2023 season has been replaced on UConn’s slate by the game at James Madison. UConn will play the return game at Liberty on Nov. 13, 2027.
