UConn men’s basketball adds 7-footer Youssouf Singare onto loaded 2023 recruiting class
Already boasting one of the best 2023 recruiting classes in the nation the UConn men’s basketball program received a fifth commitment when the Huskies landed Youssouf Singare, a four-star seven-footer from the Bronx, on Wednesday night.
Singare is the fourth four-star recruit or better in the UConn 2023 class, joining Jayden Ross, Jaylin Stewart, Solomon Ball and five-star Stephon Castle. The latter three are all ranked in the 247Sports top 100 with Castle at No. 20. Singare is ranked No. 120 in the class and No. 18 at his position.
The 7-foot, 185-pound center from Our Savior Lutheran High announced his commitment on a 247Sports YouTube stream Wednesday.
With teammates around him, Singare stood up and lifted a UConn T-shirt.
“For my next chapter, I will be playing college basketball for UConn,” the Mali native said. “I’ve been to UConn twice. So I had a chance to talk to the coaches and the staff and I had a chance to watch how they develop the players.
“For me, it’s a great place to get developed and to the league.”
His top three schools included Providence and Seton Hall.
On an unofficial visit earlier this month, Singare and the other 2023 recruits posed for a picture reminiscent of the 1991 Michigan “Fab Five” more than 30 years ago (he assumed the role of Chris Webber, sitting in the back right).
UConn’s recruiting class was ranked No. 3 in the nation behind just Duke and Michigan State after Stewart announced his commitment Sept. 16. Connecticut joins Duke as the only two programs with five 2023 commits.
