UConn men to play in 2023 Empire Classic, 2024 Maui Invitational tournaments
Apr. 4—HOUSTON — The dust hasn't even settled on the UConn men's basketball team's 2023 national championship win yet the Huskies already know where their future will take them.
UConn will participate in both the 2023 Empire Classic and the 2024 Maui Invitational, the respective tournaments announced Tuesday.
The Huskies' appearance in the Empire Classic will be their fifth at the event — UConn also participated in 1999, 2007, 2013, and 2018, taking home the title in 2013.
The 2023 Empire Classic will take place Nov. 19-20 at Madison Square Garden. Joining the Huskies in the four-team field are Indiana, Texas and Louisville.
Tournament pairings, broadcast and ticketing information will be announced at a later date.
Meanwhile, it will be the Huskies' fourth appearance in the Maui Invitational (2000, 2005, 2010 and 2016). UConn won the tournament in 2005 and 2010.
Auburn, Colorado, Dayton, Iowa State, Memphis, Michigan State and North Carolina compose the rest of the eight-team field.
The 2024 Maui Invitational will take place Nov. 25-27 at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, Hawaii.
Parade route set
Details for the Huskies' victory parade and rally in Hartford on Saturday have been finalized.
The parade begins at 11:30 a.m. from the intersection of Trinity Street and Elm Street at the State Capitol. The route will then proceed north on Trinity Street, through the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, right onto Jewell Street, left onto Trumbull Street, and concludes at the intersection of Asylum Street and Trumbull Street.
The rally begins roughly at noon outside of the XL Center's main entrance on Trumbull Street.
Players, coaches and other guests will give speeches to conclude the rally.
"The UConn Huskies men's basketball team has been a dominating force in the NCAA Tournament, and it will be an honor for us to welcome the coaches and the players to downtown Hartford and give them the celebration they deserve," Governor Ned Lamont said in a statement. "I am strongly encouraging the residents of Connecticut to come to the parade and show the Huskies how proud we are and how much this team means to our state."
