UConn men's basketball adds Israel's Yarin Hasson to 2022-23 roster

Aug. 24—The UConn men's basketball team has added its 12th scholarship player for the 2022-23 season.

Israel native Yarin Hasson has signed a financial aid agreement with UConn and will join the Huskies as a freshman in the upcoming season, the school announced Wednesday.

Hasson, a 6-foot-9, 205-pound small forward, announced his commitment to UConn on Twitter Wednesday afternoon with a tweet simply reading "Let's go Huskies!!!!!!!!!"

He was previously committed to the Denver Pioneers of the Summit League, but announced his de-commitment Aug. 13. He also held an offer from San Francisco.

Hasson, who turns 18 on Oct. 10, grew up in Gan Yavne and played his high school career at Gimnasia Realit in Rishon LeZion.

He played club basketball for Maccabi Rishon LeZion of the Israeli Basketball Premier League, the top-tier league in the country, and is also a member of the Israeli U-18 national team.

UConn has had four other players from Israel in its history, and none since 1996. Nadav Henefeld (1989-90), Gilad Katz (1990-92), Uri Cohen-Mintz (1994-95) and Doron Sheffer (1993-96) preceded Hasson.

UConn opens its season Nov. 7 when it welcomes Stonehill.
