Oct. 20—STORRS MANSFIELD — With the first early decision college application deadline looming on November 1, on Monday the personal finance website WalletHub released its 2023 list of top colleges and universities in the United States to guide high school seniors in their college selection process.

To create its list, WalletHub compared more than 900 higher education institutions in the country based on 30 key measures grouped into seven categories, such as student selectivity, cost and financing as well as career outcomes.

WalletHub ranked the University of Connecticut in Storrs as the 85th best college or university in the country and the second best in Connecticut behind only Yale University.

Yale was the second ranked college/ university in the country behind only Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In WalletHub's ranking, UConn received high scores in the admission rate, on- campus crime, graduation rate and post- attendance median salary metrics.

Out of more than 900 higher education institutions, UConn ranked 111 in student selectivity and 71 in career outcomes.

UConn Deputy Spokesperson Mike Enright noted that rankings are important, however providing for students is what is most important to the university.

" What we do for our students academically, socially and in the community is really what we value the most," he said.
