The UConn men’s and women’s hockey teams have scheduled 26 games for the 2020-21 season, with all games to be played with Hockey East conference members.

The men will play six of games designated as nonconference or “flex” games. The other 20 will count toward the regular-season championship. In order to stay with consistent COVID-19 testing and protocols, Hockey East teams will not play teams from other conferences. Travel will be day of game and kept in weekend home-and-home groupings, except for the longest trips, for UConn to Vermont and Maine, where back-to-back weekend games will be at one site.

The nonconference games, called “flex games” will be grouped at the end of the regular season, so that in the event conference games are cancelled, those games could then be switched to count toward the standings.

UConn games will not be played at the XL Center season, but all home games will be at the Freitas Ice Forum, on campus, with attendance limited to families of players and coaches. Attendance policy could be adjusted later.

NESN will televise 34 conference games between Nov. 20 and Jan. 1.

In women’s hockey, there will be 18 conference games and eight “flex” games, designated as nonconference.

Details of the Hockey East postseason tournaments will come at a later date.

The UConn men will start the season with two games at Vermont, Nov. 20 and 21. The first home games are against Maine, Nov. 27-28.

The women’s team starts at home vs. Vermont on Nov. 20 and 21.
