UConn student found unresponsive in dorm, later pronounced deceased

Jan. 30—STORRS MANSFIELD — A University of Connecticut student was pronounced deceased Thursday afternoon in what is believed to have been caused by a medical emergency.

Stephanie Reitz, UConn spokesperson and manager of media relations, said that UConn University Safety personnel responded at approximately 1: 25 p. m. Thursday to a report of a medical emergency at the North Campus Residence Hall complex on the Storrs campus.

Upon their arrival, Reitz said that safety personnel were directed to a room where the student had been found unresponsive.

UConn Fire EMTs provided emergency medical treatment until Windham Hospital paramedics arrived, at which time the student was pronounced deceased.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Reitz said that preliminary indications suggest the untimely death may have been the result of a medical emergency, and is not being treated as suspicious.

As of Friday afternoon, the deceased student's identity had not yet been released publicly.

Residential Life, Student Health & Wellness/ Mental Health, Human Resources and other university offices are coordinating services for those affected by the student's death.
