UConn women’s basketball signs Egyptian forward Jana El Alfy to 2023 class

UConn women’s basketball announced a late addition to its 2023 class Wednesday.

Jana El Alfy, a 6-4 forward out of Egypt, signed her national letter of intent. She’ll join KK Arnold, Ashlynn Shade and Qadence Samuels, who all officially signed earlier Wednesday, as part of the Huskies’ 2023 class.

El Alfy picked UConn over Oregon, Maryland, NC State, Duke, UCLA, and Louisville, among other top programs.

A native of Cairo, El Alfy participated in the 2022 FIBA U18 African Championship with Egypt, averaging 24.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Her father, Ehab El Alfy, is the head coach of the Egyptian women’s national team.

El Alfy also took part in the 2022 Basketball Without Borders camp in Cairo. She was named the female MVP of the event organized by the NBA and FIBA.
