NEW: A few students hit by pellets from Airsoft gun fired near main campus, UD Public Safety says

UPDATE @ 5:20 p.m. (Sept. 9): A few University of Dayton students were hit by plastic pellets from an Airsoft gun fired from a moving car Sept. 6, but no one asked for or needed medical attention, the Department of Public Safety said Friday afternoon.

INITIAL REPORT (Sept. 8):

The University of Dayton Department of Public Safety is notifying the UD community about occurrences of someone firing an Airsoft gun at people in the vicinity of main campus.

In an email sent to students Thursday night, Public Safety said the department received two reports Sept. 6 that a silver Chrysler sedan carrying four occupants drove through the south student neighborhood and fired Airsoft rounds at individuals on their porches in the area of Irving Avenue, near the intersection of Kiefaber Street and Lawnview Avenue.

During the course of the investigation, Public Safety learned of similar incidents including one near Garden Apartments on East Stewart Street.

There was mention in the email whether anyone was hit by the gunfire.

Public Safety is asking students that if they have additional information about the incidents, or are aware of similar incidents, to contact Public Safety at 937-229-2121.

Students are also being asked to report to campus police if they see the vehicle or any suspicious or criminal behavior.
