Mooove over, Spotted Cow. Here comes a new beer featuring another popular Wisconsin cow on the label.

Just in time for National Dairy Month, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers fans can salute the state's beloved bovine with an Udder Tuggers Cream Ale from Badger State Brewing. Cans of the ale feature the udders-forward charging dairy cow logo that's been, well, a cash cow of merchandising success since its debut in 2019.

Last year's four-day run of Udder Tuggers games — filled with dairy-related promotions and Timber Rattlers players donning cow-themed uniforms — was the team's largest draw of the year, said Seth Merrill, the Timber Rattlers' director of business development.

During the last offseason, Badger State Brewing and the Timber Rattlers agreed that an Udder Tuggers beer would be a good way to expand the brand.

"A cream ale was chosen because it's a light and refreshing beer, which seemed the perfect fit for a ballpark and summer baseball," said Badger State Brewing president and co-founder Andrew Fabry.

For the record, no cream or dairy products are used in brewing Udder Tuggers Cream Ale, which is typical of this beer style defined as a mild, pale, light-bodied ale. How this beer style became known as cream ale is anyone's guess.

Still, the cream ale wordplay works and adds a splash of humor, Fabry said.

Udder Tuggers, like the Spotted Cow, will only be available in Wisconsin — two locations specifically.

Your first chance to wrap your hand around a can of Udder Tuggers Cream Ale arrives Thursday during the release party at the Badger State Brewing taproom in Green Bay. A limited supply of the ale will also be on draft.

Fabry hopes to make Udder Tuggers Cream Ale an annual release and — depending on demand — to expand its distribution in the future.

Cans begin rolling out at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute on June 2, the first night of this year's Udder Tuggers weekend. Udder Tuggers Cream Ale will be sold at Timber Rattlers games as long as supplies last.

"We’ll definitely have it for Udder Tuggers weekend, and we're hoping we have enough to last us through early September, but we’ll see," Merrill said.

Don't udder-estimate the pull of all things branded with this logo.

The Timber Rattlers, the high-Class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, hit a grand slam in 2019 when it rebranded its Salute to Cows as Udder Tuggers night. The team sold out $20,000 worth of merchandise in five hours following the announcement. After the team restocked Udder Tuggers gear, sales neared $100,000 in the first week and surpassed $200,000 that year, with orders shipping to all 50 states.

Udder Tuggers went on to win the 2019 Baseball Theme Night of the Year and the Best Overall Promotion at the Golden Bobblehead Awards, the industry awards handed out annually by Minor League Baseball.
