UFC champ Amanda Nunes of South Florida’s ATT is in the main event of UFC 250 on Saturday
UFC 250 is Saturday from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
The main event features UFC women’s featherweight champ and baddest woman on the planet Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes (19-4) against Felicia “FeeNom” Spencer (8-1).
A mom-to-be in September, Nunes looks to make history once again in the octagon. She can become the first UFC fighter to defend belts in two divisions without relinquishing either title.
Nunes’ partner, Nina Ansaroff, is expecting the couple’s first child. The 34-year-old Ansaroff, a UFC fighter with a 10-6 record, is a former Miami Herald All-Broward soccer player from Cypress Bay High School in Weston.
Born in Pojuca, Bahia, Brazil, Nunes, 32, is a two-division champion, also tops in the bantamweight division.
Nunes trains at American Top Team in (South Florida) Coconut Creek. She is 19-4. Originally from Montreal, Spencer, 29, trains at the Jungle MMA in Orlando. She is 8-1.
Because of COVID-19, the show is closed to the public.
This marks the second UFC show in Las Vegas since the pandemic. Precautions, daily testing, rules, small contingents and guidelines continue.
Nunes and Spencer participated in a UFC virtual media Q&A on Thursday to discuss the event and more.
Miami’s Alex “Bruce Leeroy” Caceres (15-12, 1 NC) fights Chase “The Dream” Hooper (9-0-1) in a featherweight contest in the prelims.
Caceres, 31, trains at Freedom Fighters MMA in Miami. Hooper, 20, is the youngest fighter on the UFC roster. He is from Enumclaw, Washington, training at Combat Sports & Fitness.
