UF's reputation plummeting
Did Gov. Ron DeSantis corrupt the trustees and administration of the University of Florida, or did he find them rotten to begin with? The Ladapo affair left me unsure, though the effort by administrators to disguise his true salary should have clued me in. Now the breadth of administrative support for infringing upon professors’ free speech rights clearly indicates pre-existing turpitude. As national outrage over administrators’ truck with the governor’s authoritarian agenda mounts, it will be increasingly difficult to justify the university's stellar ranking by U.S. News. Maybe the magazine should include some new metrics. Administrators’ bumbling and intellectually dishonest efforts at damage control alone should knock it back into the second tier.

Gratitude for Veterans Day parade
I'm writing to thank Mayor, James Keith, the city commission, the city treasurer and the Palm Beach County court system. I returned from Vietnam in 1969 where I served as an infantry officer and helicopter pilot but never had "my parade." That was a tough time in the history of our country. Therefore, I very much look forward to participating in the Veterans Day parade on Nov. 7 and appreciate the mayor and the city commission for making it happen. Also, my thanks to the court system and Judge Ted Booras, USMC, which maintains a Veterans Court where I recently began my service as a mentor. The purpose of the court is to help veterans "navigate" their way through the court system, and it's one of only a few in the country. Thanks also to the County Tax Collector, Anne Gannon for initiating the distribution of a commemorative lapel pin in honor of Vietnam Veterans, the official pin of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration that recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Of course, my thanks to the U.S. Army, for giving me the opportunity to serve my great country, where I learned the values that have served me well, honor, service and loyalty.

Tilt in coverage disappointing
I am very disappointed by the media's left-wing coverage of the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Va. The rally had a city-issued permit and many of the so called counter-protesters showed up dressed in Antifa black with helmets and clubs. It is a lie to state they were "peaceful." Both sides were responsible for the riots.
