UGA legend Matthew Stafford selling Detroit home for $6.5 million. Take a look inside

On Thursday, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford appeared to be nonchalant about the trade rumors that were floating around.

“I really don’t pay much attention to ‘em,” Stafford said to ESPN. “I pay less attention to them than my wife does. But it’s something that doesn’t bother me. I’m here. I want to be here. I love being a Detroit Lion. I love this team.”

Yet on Friday, Stafford put his 7,720-square foot Bloomfield Township home on the market for $6.5 million, according to Realtor.com.

The house comes complete with a “gourmet chef’s quartzite kitchen, glass service elevators for all three floors, an indoor half basketball court, five fireplaces, a wine cellar, and the largest infinity pool in the state,” Realtor.com says.

But, the house going on the market has nothing to do with the trade rumors surrounding Stafford, a former Georgia Bulldogs star who was the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and played his high school football in Dallas.

“No speculation is needed,” Stafford’s wife Kelly said in a live video posted on her Instagram page. “We’re about to have our fourth child and I personally do not want to live on a lake or have a pool with four children under the age of a little over 3. So that is the reason that it’s on the market.”

Kelly is pregnant with the couple’s fourth child and due this summer.

“So that is the reason that it’s on the market. It makes us super sad. That house has been incredible. We’ll never own a house like it. So it is a super sad thing, but it just makes us feel better knowing that there’s no real dangers of having tiny ones running around all the bodies of water. So, that’s the reason.”

Jeff Barker, of Max Broock Realtors in Birmingham, Michigan, and his son Matt are handing the sale, according to the Detroit Free Press.

“I sold them the house before they had children,” the elder Barker told the newspaper. “And now with the fourth due soon, it’s just not conducive for them anymore. It has absolutely nothing to do with football.”

Stafford suffered a season-ending injury on Nov. 3, when he broke bones in his back during Detroit’s loss to Oakland, ESPN reported. He has three years left on his contract.
