Good morning. It’s the first week of the college football season. Just don’t call it that.

The kickoff games Saturday—11 in all on the FBS level--come in what’s now commonly known as Week 0.

If you want the big boy football, you’ll have to wait until next week for the likes of Georgia-Oregon and Notre Dame-Ohio State. Three ranked teams—Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest—play their first games on Thursday.

If you can’t wait, you can watch Nebraska and Florida State play Saturday. Not against each other, mind you, but they will have games.

That would be a huge deal if this were the 1990s. Now? Not so much.

Will Bono and his mates in U2 be in attendance for that Big Ten showdown between Nebraska and Northwestern Saturday in Dublin? Florida State gets Duquesne at home.

Luke Ford, the former Georgia tight end, is still at Illinois which hosts Wyoming.

Vanderbilt is the first SEC team to play. The Commodores left the mainland for a Saturday game at Hawaii. Somebody has to win!

Former Georgia walk-on Hugh Nelson is listed as a co-starter at cornerback for Hawaii. Former Bulldog walk-on Kolby Wyatt is listed as a backup linebacker.
