UIL Soccer Playoffs: Corpus Christi bi-district results

The Rockport-Fulton boys soccer team drew regional power Hidalgo in the Class 4A bi-district playoffs and saw its season come to an end with an 8-1 loss at Cabaniss East.

Hidalgo scored off a corner kick in the second minute and had a 3-0 lead by the 12th minute, taking control early.

Rockport-Fulton, the No. 3 seed out of District 29-4A, pulled one back on a spectacular free kick from 30 yards out by Jonathan Ledesma that found the upper left 90 in the 58th minute after Hidalgo had built a 7-0 lead.

Reynaldo Cantu scored the first two goals for Hidalgo and Ezequiel Gracia and Erick Montoya each notched a pair of goals.

"Any team from the Valley is going to be a quality team," Rockport-Fulton coach Mike Elkins said. "We knew what we were in for against Hidalgo and talking to other coaches, we knew they were solid from top to bottom."

BOYS

CLASS 5A

Veterans Memorial 3, Laredo Nixon 2

Erick Gutierrez scored twice for the Eagles and David Hernandez added another as Veterans Memorial topped District 30-5A's second place team. The Eagles advance to face Sharyland in the area round of the playoffs. The Rattlers eliminated Veterans Memorial last season in the regional quarterfinals.

Laredo Martin 3, Flour Bluff 2 (OT)

Martin overcame a 2-0 Flour Bluff lead in the final two minutes of regulation to force overtime and notched the only goal in the extra 20 minutes to upset the District 29-5A champion Hornets in overtime.

La Joya Juarez-Lincoln 7, Ray 1

The District 30-5A champion Huskies earned a big win to topple the fourth-place Texans in Laredo. Layton Carpenter scored the goal for Ray. Juarez-Lincoln advances McAllen in the area playoffs.

CLASS 4A

Ingleside 1, Pharr Vanguard Academy Rembrandt 0

In their first playoff game, the Mustangs went on the road and earned a win against the District 30-4A No. 1 seed Spartans. Ismael Benavides netted the game winner for the Mustangs in the 53rd minute on an assist from Devin Knutson. Ingleside advances to face Brownsville IDEA Sports Park at Brownsville Sports Park at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

GIRLS

CLASS 5A

Gregory-Portland 4, Mission Veterans Memorial 1

The Ladycats earned a three-goal win on the road at Tom Landry Stadium. The District 29-5A champions advanced to face Edinburg Vela in the area round.

Flour Bluff 4, Laredo Nixon 3

The Hornets earned a playoff win at Laredo Nixon, including goals from Izabella Cintron, Emilie Rodriguez and Madisyn Barganski, holding off a comeback effort from the Mustangs. Bluff advances to face McAllen Rowe in the area playoffs.

Veterans Memorial 2, La Joya Juarez-Lincoln 0

The Eagles were the lone District 29-5A team playing at home and came through with a shutout win at Cabaniss Soccer to advance to the area round of the playoffs against the McAllen-Donna North winner.

CLASS 4A

Calallen 11, Zapata 0

The District 29-4A champion Wildcats dominated Zapata on the road to start their quest for a return trip to the regional tournament. Calallen will face La Feria or IDEA Weslaco Pike in the area round.

London 12, Edinburg Vanguard Academy Beethoven 0

London was dominant in its bi-district win. The Pirates are aiming to reach to regional tournament for the first time since 2021 and will face Brownsville IDEA Riverview in the area playoffs.

Alice 7, Hidalgo 3

The Coyotes romped in a playoff game at Alice Memorial Stadium. Kristen Neal netted a hat trick for Alice and Cyanna Cruz and Kristyn Salinas each found the back of the net twice in the win. Alice advances to face Brownsville Jubilee or Alamo IDEA College Prep in the area round.
