UIL Soccer Playoffs: El Paso boys and girls matches to watch in the area round

The area round of the UIL soccer playoffs is Monday and Tuesday and 19 El Paso teams are alive after a successful bi-district round. Here is a look at some matches to watch.

Three boys games to watch

  • Eastlake vs. Southlake Carroll in Class 6A boys could a fun match to watch. The Falcons are seeking their third straight trip to the regional tourney. The Falcons won the District 1-6A title and defeated San Angelo Central in the bi-district round. Carroll is a 16-win team and will pose a stern challenge for the Falcons, who have been one of the state's best program's under coach Gibby Widner.

  • Andress vs. Abilene High figures to be an entertaining match. The Eagles, who won the District 1-5A title, have been steady all season and Abilene High won nine games in District 4-5A.

  • Riverside vs. Burkburnett is an interesting matchup. Riverside finished fourth in its district but won its bi-district game and Burkburnett was third in its district.

Three girls games to watch

  • In Class 6A, Franklin will take on Byron Nelson in a matchup of teams that have won a combined 34 matches. Franklin began 0-3 in District 1-6A, rattled off 13 straight wins to earn the district title and defeated Midland High to earn a bi-district title. The Cougars are the lone District 1-6A team left in the playoffs.

  • In Class 5A, 21-win Del Valle faces 18-win Lubbock Monterey in what could be a solid matchup. The Conquistadores have been steady all season under coach Stephanie Sazo.

  • San Elizario faces Burkburnett in a matchup of strong teams. The Eagles have found success in the playoffs in recent years and own 23 victories this season.
