UIL state track notebook: Seminole's Rikter Connally places fifth in Class 4A boys shot put

AUSTIN — Seminole junior Rikter Connally placed fifth in the Class 4A boys shot put at the UIL state track and field meet. The three days of competition at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium began Thursday with 4A and 3A.

Connally, who entered with the eighth-best qualifying mark, threw 51 feet, 6¾ inches. He finished second at regionals at 50-11¾.

Lindale sophomore Casey Poe won state at 57-4¾.

Connally was one of two Seminole athletes to qualify for state. Andrew Banman finished fifth in the 4A boys 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.78 seconds.

► The Shallowater foursome of Raston Copeland, Kaleb Cox, Keegan Campbell and Thomas McCully came within 0.09 seconds of a medal, placing fourth in the 3A boys 400 relay. The Mustangs finished in 42.20. Atlanta won the event in 41.74.

► Denver City senior Carson Little threw 149-3 to finish sixth in the 3A boys discus. San Antonio Great Hearts Northern Oaks' John Hanson, a Purdue signee, won the event at 187-7. That was more than 11 feet ahead of second place.

► Denver City's Spencer Freeman got sixth in the 3A boys 110-meter hurdles in 15.05 seconds. Lexington junior Daylon Washington won in 14.4

► First-year jumper Shelby Roberts of Shallowater cleared the opening height of 4-10 to place ninth in the 3A girls high jump. Fairfield's Shadasia Brackens won with a jump of 5-10.

► Snyder senior Jeremiah Rodriquez finished ninth in the 4A boys 800 in a time of 2 minutes, 4.29 seconds.
