UJ names Amy Golding as new women's wrestling head coach

Jul. 12—JAMESTOWN — After the departure of Shauna Kemp, the University of Jamestown has hired Amy Golding, a member of the New York Section 2 Wrestling Hall of Fame, to be the new head coach.

"We couldn't be more excited to have Amy join the Jimmie family," said Austin Hieb, Jimmies athletic director. "She brings an extensive knowledge of wrestling and has achieved a tremendous amount in the sport. Amy is a great addition to our department's already impressive coaching staff."

Golding comes to the Jimmies program after graduating from State University of New York College at Brockport, New York, in 2010, where she wrestled for the men's team. Since she graduated, Golding fought in regional mixed martial arts promotion, Cage Wars, eventually being crowned the atomweight (105 lbs) champion. Golding is also a junior world bronze medalist in women's wrestling and a 16-time USA National Champion.

The Duanesburg, New York, native became the first woman to win a Section 2 state title while at Duanesburg High School in 2006 and repeated the accomplishment the following year, earning 116 career wins as a member of the Eagles.

Last season, the Jimmies finished first in the KCAC conference championships for the fourth straight year and had six first-place finishers in the event.

"I am very excited to begin my journey as a Jimmie," Golding said. "It is my honor to take such a great team and help guide them to greatness in all things — academics, wrestling and life. Thank you to the UJ staff for hiring me and believing in me. I can't wait to show everyone what we can do together."
