UJ Roundup: Jimmies hockey get big wins, wrestling struggles

Nov. 5—JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown continued to dominate the Midwest College Hockey Conference, as they moved to 5-0 in conference play with a 6-0 win over Northern Illinois University on Friday, Nov. 4, at John L. Wilson Arena.

The Jimmies (5-4, 5-0) opened the scoring at the 4:41 mark of the first period when Kole Christensson made it 1-0. The Jimmies blew the game open in the second period when they scored four goals, with Christensson getting his second to make it 5-0. The Jimmies' Keaton Cline scored in the third period to make it 6-0.

The Jimmies goalie Brandon Weare got his first career shutout in the win, saving all 22 shots in the win. On the other side, the Huskies goalie Ben Vutci made 42 saves in the loss.

The two teams match up again at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5.

BOULDER, CO — After the Jimmies gave up the first goal of the game to go down 1-0, they fought back to get a 4-2 win over the University of Colorado-Boulder on Friday, Nov. 4, at the University of Colorado Ice Arena.

The Jimmies (3-8, 2-8) went into the first intermission up 2-1 behind goals from Cambree Martens and Jayden Baker. Baker added another one in the second period, before Madison Knudson added the insurance marker in the third period to give her team the 4-2 win.

The Jimmies are back in action at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, when they face Colorado State.

The Jimmies wrestling team hosted their first meet of the season and only five of the Jimmies 10 wrestlers won their matches in a dual against Minnesota State University-Moorhead on Friday, Nov. 4, at Harold Newman Arena.

The five wrestlers to win their matches were Kaena Dos Santos in the 157-pound match, Park Beeler in the 165-pound match, Tryston Rogers in the 184-pound match, Jake Rau in the 197-pound match and Ian Howell in the 285-pound bracket.

The Jimmies hit the mats again at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov.5, when they host the Jimmie Open.
