UK hospital is facing 12-hour water outage Saturday. Minor disruptions are possible

An overnight 12-hour water outage is scheduled at a part of the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital from 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday for needed maintenance, UK officials say.

Plans are in place to ensure the safety of patients and employees during the outage which will occur in Pavilion A, or the newer part of the hospital, said Kristi Willett, a spokeswoman for the University of Kentucky.

“There may be some minimal modifications and disruptions. They are doing everything they can do to keep that very minimal,” Willett said.

All restrooms, including those in patient rooms, will remain operational with the exception of one in the main lobby at the Kentucky Children’s Hospital ground-floor entrance.

In addition, UK HealthCare facilities staff will be available throughout the facility to provide bottled drinking water and to respond to questions and issues during the outage.

“There’s plans in every area for modifications and or anything that needs to be done,” she said.

“There are some minor impacts,” said Willett, but with the outage being overnight, mainly emergency treatment would occur. Operating rooms will stay open “and have appropriate water for everything that is needed there.”

Some kidney dialysis patients might be temporarily transferred to UK’s Good Samaritan Hospital, she said. Some modifications will be made to dining services overnight.
