UK jobless rate back to near 45-year low

Jobs for the boys and girls of Britain's ruling party ...

Boris Johnson's election victory puts over 100 new Conservative lawmakers into parliament ...

And they're not the only ones finding work.

The UK employment rate hit an an all-time high of 76.2 per cent in the latest period: 32.8 million people.

Pay grew at 3.2 per cent.

Unemployment - at 3.8 per cent - fell back to its lowest level since the mid 1970s.

It's good news for the prime minister.

Even if the job ahead for the Bank of England may be about to get more complicated.

Johnson's pledge of major government spending is likely to add to pressure for a rate hike ...

But many question whether he can live up to another pledge to broker a trade with the EU in the next year.

Failure to so, they say, will only lead to yet more Brexit uncertainty.

And the kind of pressure on the economy that saw it flatline in the run-up to last week's vote.

The Bank is in the meantime to decide on policy this week: no change to its ultra-accommodative stance is expected just yet.
