LONDON, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Britain's opposition Labour Party will look at the detail of any Brexit delay to be certain the risk of a no-deal exit has been removed before it decides whether to back an early general election, a spokesman for the party said on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said if the European Union offers Britain an extension to the end of January, he will pull the legislation aimed at ratifying his exit deal and seek an election to break the deadlock over Brexit.

"We will support an election as soon as the risk of a no deal is taken off the table and what that means will depend on the exact terms of the EU offer," the Labour spokesman said. "We will need something which has legal force."

"What we are trying to avoid is any kind of shenanigans on the government’s side, any kind of moving of the goal posts which would allow a no-deal crash-out," he added, noting one concern is that the government has the power to set the election date.
