UK opposition leader Corbyn says "unaware" of move against deputy

At a meeting of Labour's National Executive Committee on Friday, a Corbyn-ally proposed a motion to abolish deputy leader Tom Watson's post because of disloyalty over Brexit.

Watson, who has often criticized Corbyn, survived the ouster attempt after Corbyn intervened.

At the start of the party's annual conference, Labour had been hoping to prevent an image of a government-in-waiting - but the in fighting threatened to derail this just weeks before the date Prime Minister Boris Johnson has promised the UK will leave the European Union, with or without a deal.

This week the Supreme Court will rule on whether Johnson misled the Queen over suspending parliament - possibly raising the specter of lawmakers returning to work to try to further challenge his plans.

Corbyn said that if the Supreme Court does decide parliament should be recalled then he will work with opposition parties to prevent parliament being shuttered again up until October 31.
