UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has compared Russia's war against Ukraine to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas militants.

Details: According to the PM, the large-scale attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists on 7 October was caused by the fear that a new "equilibrium" was being established in the Middle East, which BBC says likely references the steps taken by various Arab countries to normalise relations with Israel.

Comparing the war in Gaza to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Sunak emphasised: "Putin will fail, and so will Hamas."

Background: Earlier, Rishi Sunak visited Israel to demonstrate solidarity with the country.

Prior to that, the prime minister stressed the importance of avoiding an escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East during telephone conversations with presidents Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian National Authority and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye.
