The Breakers' Circle Ballroom was the setting for an evening to raise funds for the Ukrainian refugee relief effort.

The event took place Nov. 22 and benefited the Uki Relief Fund Corps.

Kirill Basov, the Ukrainian-born entertainment director and resident deejay at The Breakers, was chairman and emcee of the evening.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Basov started a small refugee relief effort that grew quickly into the Uki Relief Fund Corps, a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide shelter, food, medical care and legal assistance to refugees fleeing the war zone.

The night began in the Magnolia Room with a cocktail reception and silent auction.

After cocktails, the crowd moved to the Circle Ballroom where musicians from the Palm Beach Symphony performed the U.S. and Ukrainian national anthems.

The Ukrainian dinner — traditional zakuski smoked fish, filet mignon and a Kievsky torte — was accompanied by first-hand reports from Yuriy Sergeyev, Anjelika Kouznetsova and Basov.

The night continued with ethnic entertainment and dancing.

More than 150 people attended, including Kathy and Paul Leone en famille — their son, Ben, served on the committee — Jacqui Michel and David Weisman, Oleg Kouznetsov, Teitsa and Allen Mann, Rocky Leiner and Nicole Fontana, Norka and Bob Aron, David Bush, Catherine Loevner and Tim McVay, Corey Whitely and Billy Ceglia, Kate Keller, Mike Donnal and Sue Gibson.

Proceeds assist the West Palm Beach-based Uki Relief Fund, which works directly with boots-on-the-ground volunteers in Ukraine to provide shelter, food, medical care and legal assistance. Current missions include humanitarian relief supplies, children's and family services, humanitarian technology, and shelter and crisis services.
