Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has codified and approved the use of nearly 15 new models of domestically-produced weapons and military equipment in the first week of 2024, Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk told Ukrainian news outlet Ekonomichna Pravda on Jan. 6.

Among the new models is the mobile anti-tank missile system (ATMS) Sturm-SM. Ukrainian missiles with different types of warheads have been developed for it.

The upgraded version of the Soviet-era Sturm-SM has been equipped with the guided missile RK-2P Barrier-P with a range of seven kilometers.

The sighting device is the domestic optical station OPSN-I, designed for observation, target selection, guidance, and rangefinding.

Additionally, the Defense Ministry has approved the use of a ground robotic platform for remote mine clearance, a new modification of the Leleka drone, and two types of FPV drones with different payloads. Special attention was given to protecting UAVs from enemy electronic warfare, said Havryliuk.

The Ministry has also authorized the use of a two-seater quad bike with a cargo capacity of 800 kg and a separate tactical trailer on the frontlines.

The codification of the mentioned weaponry allows for their procurement using state funds and deployment to the frontlines, added the deputy minister.

Ukraine has increased the production of mortar shells by 42 times in 2023 and elevated the production speed of the Bohdan self-propelled artillery unit to the level of global defense giants as of Dec. 27, said Minister of Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin.

Ukraine also expanded the production of Stuhna anti-tank missile systems, said Kamyshin, adding that the first hybrid air defense systems from the FrankenSAM project are already operational on the frontlines.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated in January that the U.S. aims to make Ukraine self-sufficient in arms production and procurement, in advance of a lessening of U.S. financial and military support to Ukraine.
