Ukraine’s Armed Forces to transition from Soviet weapons to NATO equipment, says Commander-in-chief Zaluzhnyi

The announcement came following Zaluzhnyi’s phone call with General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States. Their conversation helped further fine-tune and coordinate weapons and ammunition supplies to Ukraine.
Zaluzhnyi thanked Ukraine’s Western partners for their support, and said that the list of military equipment Ukraine needs, delivery logistics, and the use of military aid by the AFU are all tightly controlled by the central command.
“We also discussed the future model of Ukraine’s Armed Forces with my U.S. counterpart,” said Zaluzhnyi.

“It’s clear we have to move away from Soviet weapons and military equipment, if favor of the NATO ones; the sooner we begin this process – the quicker the transition will be complete.”
Zaluzhnyi also briefed Milley on the developing situation in eastern Ukraine. In particular – the fighting near Izyum and Severodonetsk, where Russia has concentrated its largest and most capable forces.
“Despite the difficult situation, we’re defending and holding our positions,” Zaluzhnyi added.
On April 26, defense ministers of 40 countries met at the Ramstein U.S. Air Force base in Germany, where they agreed on a strategic effort to comprehensively arm Ukraine with NATO weapons and equipment.
