Ukraine complains after Russian Red Cross raises money for ‘families of mobilized Russian soldiers’

Writing on Facebook page and on Telegram on Oct. 24, Lubinets said the Russian Red Cross should be expelled from the International Society and prohibited from using its emblem due to "imitation of activity in accordance with the principles of the International Movement, treachery and its misuse."

He also demanded an end to the international funding of the Russian Red Cross.

Earlier, the Russian Red Cross announced a fundraising campaign to support the families of mobilized and military personnel who are fighting in Ukraine.

"Therefore, the Russian Red Cross supports the mobilization campaign announced by the Russian President Vladimir Putin, and also funds it, thereby supporting the Russian aggression in Ukraine," Lubinets wrote.

Media Relations Officer of the ICRC Oleksandr Vlasenko, in comments to Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, said the Russian Red Cross and the Russian ICRC delegation are different organizations that "share only common principles."

He said national Red Cross societies are independent at all times.
