Ukraine connects nuclear power unit to electric grid

A power unit is a combination of a nuclear reaction and the corresponding electric generating system.
Currently, three power units of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which are occupied by Russian troops, three of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant, and two units each of the Pivdennoukrainsk and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants operate in Ukraine.
According to the Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Mariano Grossi, the latest reports "about events at or near the Zaporizhzhia NPP" indicate an increasingly alarming situation.
He called for maximum restraint to avoid any accident that could threaten the health of the population in Ukraine and elsewhere.
The agency noted that recently there have been reports (both in the mass media and in the form of official reports received by the agency) that the conditions faced by Ukrainian personnel at the occupied NPP have deteriorated further.
It was previously reported that Ukraine is switching its third nuclear power plant to use U.S. fuel, away from Russian sources — the reactor core of power unit No. 3 of the Rivne NPP was loaded with fuel assemblies from U.S company Westinghouse.
