Ukraine declares ex-Party of Regions MP Markov internationally wanted
The charges made against Markov have been made under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
Part 1 of Art. 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine);
Part 1 of Art. 161 (violation of equal rights of citizens depending on their racial, national, regional affiliation, religious beliefs, disability, and on other grounds);
Part 1, Article 6 111−1 (collaborative activity);
Art. 436 (war propaganda);
Part 1 of Art. 436−2 (justification, recognition of the legitimacy, denial of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
"He, as a so-called ‘expert’, publicly called on the air of pro-Kremlin mass media to change the borders of the territory of Ukraine, denied Russia's aggression and broadcast narratives about ‘liberators’,” the SBU’s Facebook post reads.
“So far, a number of examinations have been completed. A large body of evidence was analyzed. The conclusions drawn confirm that in the speeches of the person involved, there is evidence of his subversive activities against Ukraine. In particular, this concerns inciting national, racial or religious enmity and hatred, humiliating national honor and dignity.”
Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs declared Markov wanted in December2014 for hooliganism with intent to cause bodily harm during an attack on rally participants in Odesa in 2007.
The former parliamentarian was detained in Italy in 2015 in the resort town of San Remo at the request of the Ukrainian Interpol Bureau. Despite evidence being presented, the local court did not approve Markov's extradition to Ukraine, after which he immediately fled to Moscow.
