Ukraine establishes dedicated drone army squadrons

"The world's first UAV strike squadrons are being formed," the statement reads.

“The creation of the squadrons was approved by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, at a Staff (meeting).”

Reportedly, Ukrainian service members have already been selected to lead the new units. Each of them will receive drones, ammunition, Starlink terminals, and other necessary equipment.

The Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, and the State Special Communications Service have established a Coordination Headquarters within the framework of the Drone Army project, which will manage the project with the units, implement key reforms, and scale up UAV production.

The Drone Army project is a comprehensive program that includes procurement of drones for the Ukrainian military, their maintenance and replacement, and operator training.

On Jan. 25, Deputy Prime Minister for Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov reported that almost 1,000 Drone Army UAVs were at the front. According to him, more than 60% of them are produced by Ukrainian companies.
