EUROPEAN PRAVDA – SATURDAY, 22 OCTOBER 2022, 17:43

Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine’s Prime Minister, said that another influx of refugees from Ukraine into Europe is likely given Russia’s relentless attacks on the country’s critical infrastructure facilities.

Details: "If Ukraine has no power, heat, or running water, there might be another migration tsunami," Shmyhal said.

He accused Russia of wanting to "plunge Ukraine into a humanitarian crisis" by attacking its critical infrastructure.

In light of this, he called for "mobile heat and power generation equipment" and water purification equipment. "As of now", Ukraine still has a store of fuel for generators, but "large-scale disruptions to heat and power supply" will mean additional fuel is required. Ukraine will also need to import additional power from the West in the event of such disruptions. Ukraine’s Prime Minister also called on Germany to provide additional military aid to his country.

Ukraine is "eagerly awaiting" additional ammunition, which is needed "right now", Shmyhal said.

"This is a matter of days," the Prime Minister said.

He explained that Ukraine needed anti-drone mitigation systems to counteract the "20 to 30 Iranian-made kamikaze drones" that Russia deploys against Ukraine daily.

Shmyhal praised the IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile system that Germany has recently supplied. He said that the system is already in use in Ukraine and "has saved countless lives".

Shmyhal and his German counterpart, Chancellor Olaf Scholz, will open a German-Ukrainian economic forum in Berlin on Monday, 24 October; the leaders of the two countries are expected to discuss the rebuilding of Ukraine during the forum. According to the organisers, several Ukrainian ministers will attend the forum in person or join online.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said there "should not be a minute of delay in capitals deciding on air defense systems for Ukraine."
