Ukraineian military portal Defence Express expert Ivan Kyrychevskyi discussed his surprise at the American reaction to the news that Russia allegedly wants to send nuclear weapons into space in comments to Radio NV on Feb. 15.

“We have to wait and see what they actually say,” Kyrychevskyi said.

“The Soviet Union had comparable projects, and there are indications that they might have been executed, with a nuclear warhead launched into orbit.”

“We can recall another story from April 2022 when Russian propaganda alarmed everyone by claiming it would shoot down Elon Musk's satellites with the A-235 Nudol anti-satellite missile. However, the nuance is that this missile literally existed as a singular copy.”

Kyrychevskyi says that the American reaction “demonstrates a level of strategic inflexibility” regarding emerging threats.

"On one hand, we have been asking the question: ‘How can the Americans act this way? They have been debating in Congress for several months, blocking a crucial aid package, employing various existential arguments,’” said Kyrychevskyi.

“Now, it turns out that, perhaps, partially verified and not fully clarified information about the capabilities of the Russians is making them panic."

"We should contemplate this: the Americans are panicking and engaging in unhealthy actions, possibly over a non-existent threat. If it turns out that the Russians have launched a satellite, for instance, with nuclear propulsion, although that's not the case, and the Americans choose to react in this way — publicly, demonstrating that they perceive the Russians as strong and themselves as weak — then we are in trouble."

Kyrychevskyi warns that the Biden Administration may be perceived as projecting weakness, while his challenger, Donald Trump, “at the very least…recognizes the existence of certain instruments of power that can be used in negotiations.”
