Ukrainian forces repelled Russian attacks in the Kupyansk, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Melitopol, and Mariupol sectors of the front during the last 24 hours, the Ukrainian military’s General Staff said in its latest update on Facebook on Nov. 20.

Russian invasion forces launched one missile, 17 air strikes, and 94 artillery bombardments on Ukrainian positions and residential areas, leading to civilian casualties.

  • Kupyansk sector: Russians carried out assault operations in the areas of Synkivka, east of Petropavlivka, and Ivanivka, Kharkiv Oblast, with Ukrainian forces successfully repelling six attacks.

  • Lyman sector: No Russian offensive actions were recorded.

  • Bakhmut sector: Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 attacks by the invaders near Klishchiivka and Andriivka, Donetsk Oblast.

  • Ukrainian forces continue to conduct offensive operations south of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast.

  • Avdiivka sector: The enemy is continuing its attempts to encircle Avdiivka. Ukrainian troops are holding their ground and inflicting significant losses on the Russians.

  • Ukrainian soldiers repelled 12 enemy attacks east of Novokalynovo, Novobahmutivka, Severne, and Avdiivka in Donetsk Oblast.

  • Mariinka sector: The occupiers carried out failed assaults in the area of Krasnohorivka, Mariinka and Pobeda in Donetsk Oblast, where Ukrainian defenders repelled 16 attacks.

  • Shakhtarsk sector: The enemy carried out assault operations in the area of Staromayorske, Donetsk Oblast, without success.

  • Zaporizhzhya sector: No Russian offensive actions were recorded.

  • Melitopol sector: Ukrainian forces continued their offensive operation.

  • Kherson sector: Ukrainian defenders are still holding their positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, continue to carry out counter-battery warfare, and are inflicting fire damage on the enemy rear.

  • Over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Air Force struck two enemy positions, and Ukrainian artillery forces struck two enemy positions, as well as three enemy ammunition depots.

Russia has escalated shelling on the left bank of Kherson Oblast, fearing an expansion of Ukraine’s bridgehead across the Dnipro River, Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, spokesperson for Kherson’s Oblast Military Administration, said on Nov. 19.

Since mid-October, U.S.-based think tank the Institute for the Study of War has been reporting that Ukrainian forces have been increasing their presence on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast.
