Ukraine and Germany to build wind power plant near decommissioned Chornobyl nuclear power plant

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock signed a Ukrainian-German memorandum of intent on building a wind power plant in the Chornobyl exclusion zone during her visit to Ukraine, reported German Tagesschau on Sept. 11.
"Green electricity from Chornobyl is the future version of the world," said Baerbock, who also co-chairs the Alliance 90/The Greens party, after the signing, adding that Ukraine should make broader use of renewable energy sources.

Baerbock also visited a large power plant 50 kilometers from Kyiv, which has been repeatedly attacked by Russian missiles and drones. It was badly damaged over the winter, but has been fully restored. It is now surrounded by high anti-drone barriers.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine is preparing for winter attacks by Russia on energy systems, and is relying on German Gepard air defense systems and large-caliber machine guns such as the U.S. M2 Browning to protect them from drones and cruise missiles.
