During the meeting of Ukrainian and Hungarian foreign ministers in Uzhhood on Jan. 29, Hungarian diplomat Péter Szijjártó “didn’t say anything bad,” while the Ukrainian side effectively “benefited the most from the meeting,” Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in an interview with Ukrinform on Jan. 30.

The meeting was “timely and beneficial” and Szijjártó “didn’t say anything bad”, said the Minister.

“He could, though. I want to emphasize his correct views regarding our territorial integrity – Hungary recognizes and respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” Kuleba said.

The meeting discussed “concerns about each other’s intentions.”

“We explained everything to each other,” said the diplomat.

“The Hungarians have distrust towards us, and we have distrust towards them — due to various circumstances, this is understandable. And the fact that we discussed everything, I consider it very important.”

Kuleba stated that the talks covered three main topics: the rights of the Hungarian national minority, negotiations with Russia, and a potential meeting between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Kuleba met personally with Szijjártó in Brussels for the first time on Dec. 11 since the start of the full-scale war. The main topic of the negotiations was the EU’s decision to begin talks with Ukraine on joining the EU.

Szijjártó and his team arrived in Uzhhorod on Jan. 29. Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak and Kuleba met Szijjártó and his team.

Szijjártó ‘s talks with Kuleba and Yermak lasted more than six hours, the ministry reported.
