Ukraine’s Kostyuk advances to first quarterfinal of women’s tennis tournament in spectacular match – video

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 500 tournament in Adelaide, Australia, defeating American Taylor Townsend in the round of 16 on Jan. 10.
In the first set, Kostyuk claimed a decisive victory with a score of 6:3, despite losing a few of her serves. Townsend bounced back in the second set, winning it 6:2 and breaking Kostyuk’s serves twice.

The Ukrainian confidently started the third set, leading 3:0. However, Townsend fought back, leveling the score. In the final game, Kostyuk saved six break points and clinched the victory on her fourth match point.

This marks Kostyuk’s first quarterfinal appearance during this WTA season. She will now face Jeļena Ostapenko from Latvia.
