Ukraine’s Lyudmyla Kichenok and doubles partner Jeļena Ostapenko (Latvia) have the opportunity to start out 2024 on a winning note after qualifying for the Australian Open women’s doubles final.

The duo defeated Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe 7:5, 7:5 in the semifinal.

Kichenok and Ostapenko will face Belgium’s Elise Mertens and Taiwan’s Shuai Zhang in the Australian Open final on Sunday, Jan. 28.

Lyudmyla Kichenok/Alona Ostapenko (Ukraine/Latvia) vs. Gabriela Dabrowski/Erin Routliffe (Canada/New Zealand) — 7:5, 7:5

Kichenok and Ostapenko delivered two aces and made five double faults in the one hour, 25 minute match.

Kichenok is the third Ukrainian to reach the doubles final at the Australian Open. Ukraine’s Bondarenko sisters won the tournament in 2008.
