“Everything that is located in Crimea is dual-capable carriers. They are used in conventional warfare. And everything used by Russia in conventional warfare is a legitimate target for attack. Therefore, as we hit the airfields, as we hit the carriers, we must continue to do so. The only question is the means by which it can be done.”

According to Ukraine’s military intelligence, Russia has ground-, air-, and sea-based carriers of nuclear munitions in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

However, Yizhak has doubts about the deployment of nuclear weapons on the peninsula.

“Even if nuclear weapons have appeared in Crimea (I personally doubt that they are there on a permanent basis – it’s too risky), then such a target with nuclear weapons would become even more legitimate,” the expert said.

“Its appearance in Crimea would mean that Russia is preparing a nuclear attack on Ukraine.”

The temporarily occupied Crimea is periodically subject to explosions. The latest wave of blasts took place early on Jan. 4.

The chief of Ukraine’s Military Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, said on Sept. 30 that the Ukrainian army could start to liberate Russian-occupied Crimea by the end of the spring.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in August that Russia’s war against Ukraine should end with the liberation of Crimea, just as it began with its occupation.
